What Is the Tesla Powerwall 3?

The Tesla Powerwall 3 is Tesla’s most advanced home battery, storing 13.5kWh of usable energy with a built-in solar inverter, so unlike most home batteries, it doesn’t need a separate inverter to work with your solar panels.

That integrated inverter is the big change from the Powerwall 2. It means the Powerwall 3 can be installed as a complete standalone solar-and-battery system for a new install, or added to an existing solar system as an AC-coupled battery either way, without paying for a second piece of inverter hardware.

It also delivers a lot more power: 11.04kW of continuous output (the Australian-market figure), more than double the Powerwall 2. That’s enough headroom to run air conditioning, an EV charger and everyday appliances at the same time during a blackout, a genuine advantage here on the Central Coast, where storm-related outages aren’t rare.

How Much Does a Tesla Powerwall 3 Cost on the Central Coast?

A Tesla Powerwall 3 is one of the most popular home batteries on the Central Coast, and the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program rebate is applied as an upfront discount on your installation. The Powerwall 3’s 13.5 kWh capacity falls within the full-rate band, so most households get the maximum rebate for their system size.

Since 1 May 2026 the rebate has stepped down every six months, on 1 January and 1 July, rather than once a year. The next reduction is on 1 January 2027, and another follows on 1 July 2027. The rebate is set by your installation date, so booking sooner means a bigger discount.

You may be able to reduce the cost further. Connecting your Powerwall to an eligible Virtual Power Plant can unlock extra incentives, and NSW also offers a zero-interest Home Energy Saver loan that can be combined with the federal rebate. Each has its own eligibility rules and end dates.

I spent a lot of time choosing the right installer for a major solar and battery upgrade and Coastal Solar Solutions stood out clearly in the end. I contacted 6 or 7 companies initially just to understand the realistic price range. The scope was significant, adding 21 panels to bring the system to 16kW, installing a Sigenergy 48kWh battery with a 25kW three phase inverter, plus whole house backup via the Sigenergy gateway. A crew of five split into solar and battery teams and worked efficiently and professionally. The cabling, switchboard work and overall finish were exceptionally neat, the roof work was done carefully, and the site was left clean at the end of the day. Alex, who handled the battery installation, was especially diligent and detail focused. Steve Torpy, the business owner, attended site at the start of the day to set expectations, which I appreciated and which set the tone for the install. They started exactly when they said they would and completed everything within a single day, with solid communication throughout. A nice example of their attitude was upgrading me at no cost to Australian made panels when stock of the originally quoted panels was limited. Rather than delay the job, they absorbed the difference and kept things moving. I have since had Coastal Solar Solutions back to install an EV charger and once again the work was clean, professional and well finished. Their pricing was not the cheapest, but the overall value, quality of workmanship, and post installation support for follow up questions made them the best choice for me. I would not hesitate to recommend Coastal Solar Solutions and would use them again without question.
